Job Summary
The Night Rover/Lease Operator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all well operations during night shifts in an oilfield production environment. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operation of wells and related production equipment while providing leadership and guidance to field operators. The Night Rover/Lease Operator serves as the primary on-site decision-maker during assigned shifts.
 
Essential Functions
  • Coordinate night shift well operations, ensuring production targets are met safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor well performance, production rates, pressures, and equipment integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues related to wells and all production related equipment.
  • Coordinate with day shift supervisors, production engineers, and field management to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of wellheads, pumps, compressors, and production equipment.
  • Respond to alarms, emergency situations, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Complete required production reports, logs, and regulatory documentation accurately and on time.
  • Dispatch night operators to alarms, prioritizing environmental, safety, and production. Assisting with troubleshooting as needed.
  • Mentor and train new operators, ensuring adherence to best practices and procedures.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with third-party automation technicians, compressor mechanics, and electricians.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of oilfield production or well operations experience.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of well operations, artificial lift systems (plunger, ESP, rod pump, gas lift, jet pump), and surface production equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, production data, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and production reporting software.
Other requirements
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with clean driving record (extensive travel between sites may be required)
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions
  • Operate a vehicle safely in all weather conditions
This position is critical for maintaining the safety culture within oil and gas operations while ensuring full compliance with environmental laws.

  • Night shift schedule (typically 10-hour shifts, 8/6 hitch).
  • Outdoor field environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and hazardous materials.
  • On-call availability for emergency response as required.

  • Physical ability to perform routine maintenance on oil and gas wells as required.
